Hi, I'm Mery!
I'm the baker behind every treat at Mrs. Sweet Strong.
I grew up on a small island in southwest Brazil, where I fell in love with baking - at seven years old! My aunt (an incredible baker) taught me the basics. We didn't have a mixer back then, so she'd hand me a bowl of eggs and tell me to whisk them "good and strong enough that if you flip the bowl over your head, they won't fall on you!"
I'll never forget the wonderful memories I made in that kitchen, and the lessons it taught me - baking isn't just about following a recipe.
The best bakes happen when you put your whole heart into it.
My mom was my biggest inspiration.
She didn't just bake cakes - she created experiences. Birthday parties at our house were legendary. She'd design beautiful cakes, gather all my relatives to help decorate, and set up celebrations that made everyone feel so special. I watched her turn simple ingredients into memories, and I knew, deep down, that I wanted to do that for others someday.
When I was a teenager, she started selling cakes and decorating for parties. Naturally, I also started selling chocolates, cake slices, and cupcakes (at school), just like mom.
It wasn't just about earning money though - it was about sharing joy and bringing people together through culinary experiences.
That passion never left.
At 19, my mom passed away.
Suddenly, my dad and I were alone in Brazil - my brothers had already moved to the United States. I was in college, trying to finish my pharmacy degree, and it was hard to move forward without her. Leaning on God for strength, I graduated with my pharmacy degree and worked in Brazil for a few years.
But in 2016, everything changed.
I came to visit my brothers in the United States, and met Ben (who would become my husband)! His heart belonged to God, and I could tell immediately - this was my one and only. God showed me that I could trust and love Ben, and we got married that same year.
A Dream Born from Love
Ben was very supportive of my lifelong dream to open my own bakery, so together, we started Mrs. Sweet Strong. Every time I'm baking, I feel the same passion and joy I've had all these years. In the kitchen, surrounded by the aromas of freshly baked treats, I'm surrounded by good memories of love, family, and happiness.
Baking is my happy place.
Every cookie, cake, and brigadeiro I make carries a piece of my story. The recipes my aunt taught me. The creativity my mom inspired in me. (Even the "good and strong" approach I learned as a little girl whisking eggs in Brazil!)
